The book Flat earth news on the struggle for the soul of newspaper reporting has been getting a lot of media attention in the last month. This is unsurprising in itself as there is absolutely nothing media professionals like better than discussing themselves. The author Nick Davies raises some very smelly issues about what has happened to newspapers during the time I have worked in them. And his line about PR providing a 'solution' to the problem of volume news provision while journalists have been fighting chronic underfunding of editorial teams, certainly rings true to me. There's a review of the book from the London Review of Books here.
